Education and employment

He received his Ph.D. degree in materials engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2014 under the supervision of Prof. Hideo Takezoe and Prof. Ken Ishikawa. He has been a professor at South China University of Technology in China since 2019. His principal interests are the physicochemical properties of soft matter, particularly in traditional liquid crystals, polar liquid crystals, colloids, and applications of liquid crystals, etc.

He is a member of The International Liquid Crystal Society (ILCS), The International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), The Physical Society of Japan (JPS) and The Chinese Physical Society (CPS).

Research: Ferroelectric liquid crystal (LC) topology and free energy theory. Many unusual polar topologies may be produced by ferroelectric LCs in specific spatial confinements. From the perspective of free energy, by revealing the relationship between physical properties and polar topologies in ferroelectric fluids systems, it promotes the understanding of the fundamental physical laws of the polar LC systems and promotes the ferroelectric LC materials toward further development and application.
